How To Live The High Life For Less | London

Monday 7 September 2015 • No comments

I like the good life, who doesn't?! But rather than being Blair Waldorf, an Upper East Side Manhattanite (I miss Gossip Girl...), I'm a slightly broke student in London. Sigh.

But there's always ways around this, and recently I've been living it up for less, so I thought I'd share some of these ways.

1. Competitions

I know it sounds cliche and unrealistic, but recently when I was watching TV one evening, I thought I may as well give some competitions a go- someone's got to win, right?! And for one of them, it actually was me!

NME were offering readers the chance to win tickets to an exclusive competition only gig to see Catfish and the Bottlemen, along with La Roux, and it was an incredible night. Held at Scala, near King's Cross, it was an intimate setting, giving an electric, personal feel.

Both acts knew exactly how to engage a crowd, and they had everyone singing and dancing along within minutes. It was an amazing experience to see two of my favourite artists, and the fact it was free made it even better!

2. Tastecard

I took my best friend to the gig and to make an evening out of it, we also went for dinner. This can be such an expensive occaison, but recently I got a Tastecard which gives 2 for 1 on main courses, or 50% off the food bill, so if two of you have tap water and a main each, it can cost no more than £3.50-5!

Never pay full price for this, some student banks offer it as an incentive for joining them, and Groupon sell it for half price. It's well worth the potential investment, as especially when half price you can make back the money in a few meals out. It works not only on chains such as Pizza Express, but also independent restaurants so everyone can find something they like.

Hope these tips may be useful and I've inspired you to give some competitions a try- you never know, you could be the lucky one!
